So much has happened!
I think we are all at a loss right now. So much has happened in the last week. We have all been impacted by the excessive rain and flooding. Some much more than others. So, what do we do? First, we need not be overwhelmed. God has given us the abilities we have to help each other and those in our surrounding communities as the needs become known. We must be attentive and ready to do what is needed when it is needed.
We must first be taking all this to God in prayer. Pray for those who have personally lost so much. Many around us have damage or total loss to homes and businesses. Bridges have been damaged or destroyed. We need to get on our knees and pray for their strength emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Pray for clarity on what we can do as individuals and as a church. Prayer will set the foundation for what happens next.
What is happening around us has really made it clear that we can’t control everything that happens to us, and our possessions won’t last forever. It has also made it clear that we need each other!
This morning, I was so encouraged by what Titus 2:11-14 says:
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
I hope this passage encourages you as well. It has spiritual encouragement that God has offered all of us salvation and hope through Jesus. But it also gives us an incredible directive. Jesus redeemed us so that we would be zealous to do good works. That’s our next step after prayer. As the opportunities arise, we must step up and physically help others with a zealous heart.
Let’s join together in prayer and get ready to put on our working boots!
