Will You Prepare?

Will you prepare? That sounds like a loaded question, right? It really isn’t. Let me tell you where I am going with this. March is upon us and with comes the Easter season. March 5th is a day called Ash Wednesday; this marks the beginning of the Lenten season. I know not everyone celebrates Lent. I have really only celebrated Lent for about 10 years. I participated in the activities of Lent over the years, but I didn’t really take time daily to focus on it. Do we have to observe Lent? No. It isn’t a Biblical command. With that being said let me tell you why I am now convinced it is a great opportunity to get closer to God and maybe even understand Jesus more.

So, let me get back to my question, will you prepare? Will you prepare for our celebration on Resurrection Sunday for more than one day, more than one week? God made it clear to me that we don’t spend enough time focusing on the birth, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. That is why this question has been meandering in my mind. Do I, do you, do we as faithful followers of Jesus prepare and strive to understand why Jesus did what He did while He walked this earth? He experienced the ups and downs of life that we do. He loved and lived like no one else.

Will you prepare? I encourage you to find a devotion for the forty days of Lent. There are many resources like the YouVersion app for your phone or other online sources. We will also have devotions at the church that you can pick up so you will be prepared to start reading on Ash Wednesday. I also want to invite you to join us for our Ash Wednesday service at the United Church of Primghar on Wednesday, March 5th at 6:30 pm. It’s a great way to get started celebrating our Savior, Jesus Christ! I am excited to have you join me in this opportunity to prepare for Resurrection Sunday!
